Two land properties located in the protected landscape area "Adazi" have been acquired within the project's action B.1 - "Zales" (35.94 ha) and "Pludoni" (6.6 ha). Project's and SCDMOP represenatives will carry out the adoption of the purchased land properties in an offsite meeting.
Habitats specially protected in the European Union are located in the purchased land properties.
Representatives of the LIFE+ project "Birds in Adazi" and the Environment Department of State Centre for Defence Military Objects and Procurement will participate in the international seminar "Conciliating operational training with the preservation of biodiversity on military camps". The experience of nature protection activities in the Garrigues military training area will be presented and discussions on the seminar topic will be carried out with the managers of other European military nature areas. LIFE+ project's field work coordinator Ieva Mardega will introduce with the nature conservation activities in the Adazi military training area.
The visit to the Adazi military training area and the presentation of the project's "Birds in Adazi" progress will be held during the first meeting of Latvian, Lithuanian and Estonian LIFE projects that takes place on 25th - 26th August.
Adazi military training area Visitors Day 2016 is dedicated to the Western Taiga - a rare type of pine forest (a habitat protected in the European Union). Nature conservation expert Sandra Ikauniece will tell about the Western taiga and its management, Inita Daniele will introduce to the mushrooms found in this forest, Voldemars Spungis will tell about the insect species. National Armed Forces will show military equipment used in the military training in the Adazi MTA.
In November, representatives of the LIFE+ project "Birds in Adazi" will visit the Dutch military training areas, to learn about foreign colleagues' experience of nature management in these territories. Staff of State Centre for Defence Military Objects and Procurement, National Armed Forces and JSC "Latvian State Forests" will participate in the visit.
Conference "Military and Nature - Mutual Benefits" (29.-31.08.2016.) is a closing event of LIFE+ project "Birds in Adazi". The project will present achieved results in the management of heath, Western taiga forest and bog. Also other subjects relating to the nature protection in military areas will be discussed.
